Great word choice but the writer is deliberate when digging into the thesaurus, never pretentious. The Combs column is brilliant. It doesn't overstay its welcome and touches on the most important aspects of their lives.

Mike Dunn's articles have me ready to pack a bag, which includes my camera gear, and head to NC! Or at least on a weekend trip outdoors closer to home. Captivated by caterpillars! I learned more in that short article than I would have in six weeks of science class. Photos just enhance the experience of reading his work. 1st place!
