Hawn surprised by Freedom ousting
Multi-source story about laying off the football coach. It got further into the reasons than I thought it would.

The Paper - Sports Coverage
Lots of great sports coverage make this a quality entry. The breadth of coverage is impressive. Great photos help make this entry stand out. I would like to see some additional photos breaking up some of the gray areas of copy.

Sports Columns
You don't have to be a sports fan — and I'm a huge fan — to love these columns. Throughly enjoyable reading. Like sitting with a friend at a back yard barbecue talking about sports with someone who loves them as much as I do.

Homelessness - No Easy Answers
Every base was covered with interviews, research and anecdotes. Member of the homeless population often are not the easiest interviews. It was well-done. As to what can and should be done - mental heath and addiction treatment, transitional housing housing, job training - all are well-known. I would have liked to see more discussion of how to do it, particularly in terms of funding from the state and federal government.

The Paper Fall Sports Preview
Clearly, Paul knows his community's sports culture very well. This was the best of sports sections submitted, because of very crisp & orderly design that had consistency; great knowledgeable reporting; depth of content (high school, middle school & youth rec); and loved the whole product. Very well done. Thank you.

Hemstreet must gather 2,000-plus signatures to be on November ballot
The story has an intriguing lede and good quotes, and it highlights the fact that many voters do not know about the new bill.

Confederate Monument Debate
I don't give out 10s generously - it can almost always be better. Amazingly researched and presented. A very controversial topic handled expertly.

Vietnam memoir brings the horro home
This is a touching and clear view of the Vietnam War -- one that was made more unique through the eyes of a doctor. Although the Vietnam War and its veterans have recently gained more respect, articles and columns like this are helping in that same fight.
