The Timeless Boyhood of a Baseball Lifer (Faith)
Loved this story, of an aging baseball player and how it related to a drop in African-American players. Lots of detail about Kenny, his life, and his love of baseball.

The Timeless Boyhood of a Baseball Lifer (photo)
Fantastic shots, and great use of lighting. While mostly posed, these photos tell the story well. Good variety. Nice job capturing his heart through the lens.

Is the Long Reign of UNC Women's Soccer Over?
A story about the head coach of a women's soccer team and his lack of recent successes seems like a good topic for investigation

A Small City Fights to Hold on to Baseball
Great, sad tale about a town losing its beloved baseball team. Was waiting for Crash Davis to take an AB. Well done, well researched.

UNC's Risky Belichick Math
Good hard look at the monetization of football at UNC-CH and how new coach Bill Belichick's hiring will perhaps pay big dividends.

A Small City Fights to Hold on to Baseball
Nice work capturing places of the stadium the average person never gets to see. The details stand out in these photos  the sidewalk painting, the manager's office, the bobbleheads.

What Is Really Going On With Charlotte the Stingray?
A fascinating story told by a writer who obviously took interest in its outcome and followed it until the end. I found myself enraptured by the tale of the pregnant, then not pregnant ray. You don't have to have a story about war or famine to write it in a dynamic way. Beautiful work.

The Assembly's Headlines
I am not usually a fan of play on words, but this worked. It drew me into the entire story.

How the N.C. Legislature Bankrolls Crisis Pregnancy Centers
every one of these images is SHARP!!!! Not just sharp as in what they're focusing on, but the imagery captured here is amazing, particularly the woman holding her baby's hand with the tattoo "strength." This image alone tells a story without any words necessary. Excellent job.

Mark Robinson and the Suspension of Disbelief
You took a political story and came at it from a different angle. It was not the story I expected to see for election coverage.

Criminal Justice Reporting
All of these stories delve deeply into brokenness within the criminal justice system. The reporter followed each of these cases carefully and for a long time to yield informational stories that question what is happening in these communities. Well done.

In Search of a Sex-Positive South
This was a bold swing that it landed. This could have been made into a spectacle, but instead, he builds trust and writes with clarity and humor. The reporting never feels exploitative. Theres a balance of storytelling and cultural critique. It's the kind of piece you don't forget.
