I really enjoyed Carter's story of persistence in the face of personal challenges.

Chase Jordan's report of road troubles in the Pender neighborhood was a fine example of community reporting that examines a very real and practical problem that people in 130 homes face every day. He artfully explained the quagmire the residents face without taking sides about who is to blame.

This is a big win for a relatively small daily paper that revisited a topic that many thought was put to rest decades ago -- segregation. Moreover, the Star News' effort is a win for its community. A great combination of data analysis and interviewing. Way to go.
