How this Brunswick island once deemed 'inhospitable for colonization' became an exclusive resort
In a very competitive category with so many fine stories, to place third is a huge honor. Well done in researching the history and moving the story forward to what has emerged.

Why Wilmington-area Gen Z students are increasingly drawn to careers in trades
Liked the photos of the students (illustrated the story concept). Surveys and quality quotes used to personalize the story. Maybe do a follow up article about alumni.

Napoleon' once lived in Wilmington; 56th wedding anniversary; A simpler time
What a wonderful tribute to your parents in detailing ways that they have influenced your life. It is great to see that people find their parents to be important in their lives and want to share about it with others. The column about man's best friend was also cleverly written showing how dogs touch the human soul and spirit! Great work.

Action from Trask football's first week of practice
While it makes me laugh, I also know how these guys are feeling - holding something that gets heavier and heavier with each step. Great way to view another side of athletics.

Who's controlling development in the Cape Fear region? Here's what a StarNews analysis found
Excellent piece about just who comprises local governing boards that make decisions about property development. Thoroughly researched and very well written. Taking the step to look at the makeup of the governing boards and planning bodies, and the impact they may have on development in the region was a plus.

Port City Foodies Newsletter
Great balance of imagery and text. I appreciate that each article description is curated for the newsletter. Paragraphs can appear long for newsletter readers so depending on your audience you could consider shorter graphs. Mobile formatting is great too.

Pender County teacher helps young musicians find their singing voices, fall in love with music
Lots of different media used (photos, video, galleries). A long story seemingly made short through use of effective story breaks.
