The writer lets the subject's quirky obsession shine without mocking him, which takes restraint and a good feel for tone. It's light, weird and memorable in the best way. A nice reminder that joy has a place in print too.

This piece really made me stop and think about roadside surveillance in our state. Even in rural areas, it's growing. While I see the benefits for law enforcement, I also see how it can be mishandled, like you point out. Solid, investigative journalism.

What a shot! This photo has depth, texture, emotion, color, heaviness...all the elements that make a great photo something worth looking at. The head-on angle of the photo (instead of aerial or from the side) draws the viewer in and places us right on the edge of that road.

Photos should tell a story and the angle of this shot and the focus and determination visible on the face of the quarterback make this an awesome photo. It also illustrates the patience and focus of the photographer.

The lede on the teenager and his car was top notch

Now these are angles that tell a story. Grabs your attention, makes you want more. Maybe photo of gentlemen reading fine print a bit higher up for max impact.
