A Lyons' Heart
It's a similar photo to those we've all taken - wrestler jumping into coach's arms - but the accompanying text makes this one more memorable.

Person County Democratic Party officer resigns
Maybe not the greatest political story ever told, but in its way it is thoroughly exposed with excellent writing/reporting. It relates a confrontation, that didn't happen as alleged by a resigning elected official, against a companion elected officer. And the issue of confrontation attracts readers regardless of priority level.

Positivity through art
The writer captured the story of this person's contributions as a teacher and more importantly, someone who really cares. While handicapped this person excelled and made the world of her students better. A very good read

A Lyon's Heart
A story of grit and determination. Ben McCormick obviously has the talent and knows descriptive writing will always be a winner. Sometimes reporters shy away from the less than pretty details, but this is what sports journalism is - not always pretty. Great story telling and photographs to back it up. Oh and did I mention, clever play in the headline! Congrats on 2nd place! Thanks for the read!

Titanic stories live on at Person County Museum of History
The reader is immediately pulled into the story with this lede. The writer is not afraid to interject his or her feelings about the subject, which keep one's interest throughout. It's one of those stories that both the subject and the reader enjoy.

Commissioner in custody on domestic violence charges
A nice trio of articles covering the arrest of a local elected official. Good information, albeit at times very repetitive by copying all the charges over and over (is necessary). The third article has much more depth. I questioned the identifying of the alleged victim; most newspapers do not name domestic violence victims. Thank you.

Kromatik shines at the Backyard
What a fun read. Writer takes reader behind the scenes, tracking this young band's emergence from the opening note. Creative lede, engaging approach invite readers to really get to know Kromatik. Well done
