Coastal geologist Orrin Pilkey, 1934-2024: An appreciation
The writer had additional insight on Orrin Pilkey as a personal friend, and that "extra" knowledge made this story a gem. It was a personal favorite of mine in a large class of excellent stories Definitely a feature worth reading.

The sea turtle story was well-sourced and easy to understand. Story on permeable pavement could use more explanation of what the pavement is made of. Beaufort dock story provided extensive information and multiple voices on a divisive issue. Great quotes in the story about the stallion killed by a reckless driver. The site also provides "news to use" in the form of briefs/press release.

African Americans in seafood industry heart of new exhibit
This story recovers and recognizes a long-overlooked legacy. The reporting is careful and respectful, and the writer gives the exhibit and the people it highlights the dignity they deserve. It's not over-written, just honest and well-structured and the history sticks with you. It's a quiet piece, but it has lasting impact. That matters.
