Collection of lighter columns: Theoden Janes
The columns were well written from the first-person point of view. Each one had a different perspective and touched on something that people go through, even with the picture in the newspaper.

NC event named for Trump is trying to come back from the dead. It’s not going well.
What an interesting story, and the reporter does a great job taking us step by step through every component.

Barrage of gunfire kills 3 year old boy at Charlotte home
Darn while polls anyway! Very emotional with the obvious bullet holes in the background. You can feel the tragedy.

A UNC campus is accused of ignoring sex abuse. Records show little action after last scandal
Very thorough job of examinging what seems to me to have been a trend of sexual abuse at the school from 1965 to the present. Digging out the history took a lot of work. Wondering if there's a mandatory reporter law in NC and if it extends to the college level.

A NASCAR fan was bullied for being LGBTQ+ ally. Then he designed Jimmie Johnson’s car.
Very emotional story. I thought the reporter did a great job of expressing what he was going through and then encompassing all that happened with Jimmie Johnson.

Dyanie Bermeo says she was sexually assaulted. She didn't expect to be charged.
A well done video breaking down a complicated story. Good use of available audio/video packaged with new visuals.

Rae Carruth wanted to kill his unborn son. Now the ‘miracle boy’ turns 21.
Tremendous work that's both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and that demonstrates the reporter's level of access. That butterfly ending was beautiful.

Collection of ledes: Scott Fowler
Very strong ledes. The use of detail in the lede about Cam Newton - that he didn't have dirt on his pants - was a great choice. The lede on the Chancellor Lee Adams story was hard hitting with the statement that Rae Carruth once tried to kll him. I though the use of first person in the article about the suspension of the volleyball players was effective.

Broken promise: After fleeing Taliban, Afghan families feel neglected by Charlotte agency
Obviously a well-reported piece that gets to the humanity of an issue many people may have just known by the headlines they'd see online.

Held back tears several times. Just such a good job weaving together the stories of two very different people who found love through a very unique bond.

A chronic speeder and a boy who died too soon
The photo really speaks volumes of the sad and dark, unnecessary tragedy that took place. What is ironic is that the blur of the car lights in the background look as if the cars are speeding by, just as the little boy lost his life to someone speeding.

She taught piano to kids in NC for years. Then her daughter accused her of sex crimes.
Wow. I have no other words at the moment. Such a terrible story but I hooked from the first word to the very last. Extremely commendable job writing this young woman's story.

Powerful piece of work. Very well put together and brought back many feelings for the reader/viewer. Taken the piece from beginning through the devastation and experiences of those involved. Additionally, showing the life experiences of Muslims and the difficulties they endured. Great work!

NC jailer charged with multiple sex crimes. Sources say victim is a transgender inmate
You've done something here. It's difficult to write a worthwhile story when officials provide few details, but the legwork that went into this piece bridged that lack of information without crossing into assumption. That's good work, and more importantly it's professional.
