Asheville High School sports impacted by Tropical Storm Helene
Just like when the players couldn't play, they used their time and energy to help others, this writer likely had no games to cover, so used the time and space to highlight other aspects of the team's contributions to the community. Good job keeping sports fans in the know while not actually writing about sports. Nicely done!

Lives Taken by Helene
A remarkable entry in capturing so many lives who did not survive a natural disaster. Took a lot of work gathering information and made us care about people who perished because of its emotional writing/ Well done.

Tropical Storm Helene's aftermath on Swannanoa River Valley
Photos complement text with images of storm destruction, of people emotionally affected through a river region of the state. It's the photo quality not quantity that makes the images effective.

Destruction of water, wind after Tropical Storm Helene
A good collection of storm damage images, but more effective are the images of community members helping and reacting to the event.

'The remainder:' What the Swannanoa River left behind after Helene's fury
A reporter kayaking 22 miles of a River to document damage of a hurricane is certainly reporting that goes beyond routine... Well-done in reporting and writing that gives readers a unique and descriptive report of not just the damage but the toll the storm takes on the people.

Homelessness in Helene's aftermath
I love a story about real people - not just statistics or speculation. This is good
